Nap time. It's how I get anything done. If you're a mom/dad, you can totally relate. If not, just trust me. The other day I put Saydee down for her early afternoon nap and decided to go get a quick workout in. As I got down there, my husband was already mid-workout. I lifted my wimpy weights, did whatever else I needed to do to get a good sweat in, and headed back upstairs to clean up before the baby woke up.

As I started up the stairs I stopped for a second. I looked back and saw my husband. Full of determination, he continued a workout that seemed never-ending. It is never-ending. After having hit off the tee in our backyard for who knows how long, he went downstairs to continue his eternal quest to be the best baseball player he can possibly be.

People call this the "off-season". Sure, we went on a well-deserved vacation, but who was in the gym on the first day of our trip? Eric. Who was constantly asking me to throw with them? My husband. Who was out on the lawn of the resort running sprints in the heat of the day? My daughter's father, who is so ridiculously driven to succeed and provide the best possible life for his family, that he will "never-never-never give up". (That's his mantra.)

There is no off-season. My husband works his butt off day-in and day-out, and I wish I had even an ounce of his drive. It's amazing to me. He manages to do all of this while still being an amazing husband and father, and I know it's no easy task.

Baseball season is almost here, and I cannot wait to see what 2015 has in store for #28. I just know it has great things.

  1. There are a number of us who have recognized this "commitment to excellence" on the part of Sogie from the first time he crossed the white line and stepped on Clay Wood's well-manicured carpet. (I have to say Clay's, because he and Vuc are the ONLY constants us old timer fans can count on...)
While the changes during the past (and last year's) off season....are hard for us (as fans) to comprehend, I can only imagine how tough it is for the guys under contract in an uniform to deal with.
But I, for one, TRULY APPRECIATE what #28 is doing, in the 'off season" and even MORE during the season. I see the efforts of his hard work, his tenacity and his love for the game every day he steps on the field.
And thanks to how we roll in modern times, social media helps us see that this is all because of who Eric is, as a man and a human being... which he was BEFORE he put on the green and gold and who he will continue to be after he takes it off. =)
