dear friends, please don't stop texting me

Dear Friends,
please don't stop texting me.

My life is busy. I'm the mom of a two and a half year old. A two and a half year old with an insanely good imagination, who needs me to be Elsa, or Anna, or a red dinosaur at any given moment. A growing two and a half year old who needs her sippy cup re-filled approximately 16 times a day. A two and a half year old who needs multiple band-aids for the non-bleeding owwies she received while doing the things I warned her not to do. I'm the mom of a little girl who is growing incredibly fast, but still tells me I'm her best friend, and I'm busy treasuring every second while it lasts.

I get your texts, and I read them, and I smile because I love seeing your name pop up on my phone.

And then someone else needs me.

Because I'm also the mom of a nine month old baby boy. A nine month old who has the most amazing inchworm/breast stroke/some kind of crawl. A nine month old who is currently cutting two new teeth and isn't happy about it. A nine month old who doesn't give a crap about his toys, but wants to play with every cord that he sees coming out of the wall. I'm the mom of a sweet, observant little boy who is constantly taking in his surroundings and soaking in every bit of his new world. I'm busy soaking in every bit of him.

So please! Please don't stop texting me.

I haven't forgotten about you, and I'm never, ever ignoring you. You are no less important to me than you were before I made these little offspring. I don't think about you any less, and when our song comes on the radio I still reminisce about the good ol' days. I know you've text me three times and I haven't responded yet, but I'm so easily distracted. Distracted by the juice that spilled on the rug, and the play dough my son is eating. Distracted by these two things that rely on me to keep them alive.

I know I share bits and pieces of my life on Facebook, and IG, and wherever else, but that's just it; bits and pieces. My job is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sometimes it feels like more than that, but rarely less. I'm busy, and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I hope you can understand.

It's annoying, I'm sure. To take time out of your day to message someone that rarely responds. Someone that doesn't have much time for you anymore. Someone you never hear from, and is hardly ever the one to initiate conversation. I'm sorry.

I try my best, and will try even harder from now on. I still love you. I cherish your friendship more than you could probably know at this point.

I know, I suck. But please don't stop texting me.

Love, Me

  1. Our tiny humans take so much of our time. But it's so worth it. My girls are 17 & 14 yrs old and honestly are my best friends. My son, who is almost 13, keeps me busy with all his baseball stuff. And honestly, being a Mom,it's the best job in the world!

    1. It really is! I'm sure that one day, down the road, I'll have lots of free time for my old friends again. I'm so excited for that time, but I'm loving this time I'm in now!

  3. Ohhh Kaycee I loved every bit of this except the "I suck" part. You definitely do NOT suck. I miss you dear friend. I'm glad we have the friend/mommy connection we have. I'm grateful that even though we don't communicate that much, we are still there for each other without being said. You're great. Love you! Thinking of you. Give those growing nuggets of cuteness a hug and kiss for me. No, not Eric. You can give him some knuckles for me ;) ❤️
